Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ - Tattoo FAQ - Piercings

Q: What about sterilization?

A: Redbeards is a licensed studio, they have to be as clean and careful about sterilization as a doctor, a dentist or a hospital. This means that all piercing equipment and jewelry are sterilized using hospital-grade autoclaves. No needle is used twice. Latex gloves are worn by the piercer at all times during the piercing process and are replaced every time the piercer touches something other than the needle or piercing area. Sterilization is the most important thing in a piercing studio. Do not be afraid to ask David about his sterilization use. Redbeard will be more than glad to inform you of his sterilization practices.

Q: How old must you be to get a piercing?

A: According to Kentucky state law any person under the age of 18 must have a signed and notarized letter of parental/custodial consent prior to receiving a tattoo/piercing.

Q: How long does it take to heal? What about the aftercare?

A: The amount of healing time required will vary from person to person depending on their health as well as the type and location of the piercing. The healing time generally last between 6-8 weeks for a simple ear piercing, and up to a year or more for the more sensitive piercings. You will need to take care of your new piercing for the at least the first two weeks, applying products that protect the piercing during the healing process such as H2Ocean. You will receive piercing after care instructions from David outlining the proper technique for taking care of your new piercing.

Q: How are the piercings priced?

A: Price depends on position and placement of the piercing.

Q: Where can I get pierced?

A: You can get pierced just about anywhere. There are the common piercings; ears, eyebrow, belly button, tongue, lip/s and genitals etc. And, there are surface piercings which cover the surface of your skin over; arms, legs, face, feet etc. You will need to ask Redbeard to learn what he pierces and feels comfortable doing.

Q: Will it hurt?

A: Pain is relative depending on the person. Remember that it is a needle passing through the flesh, so it can be painful. But, the pain does not last for long. If the newly pierced area remains sore for an extensive amount of time contact Redbeards for more instruction.
