Q: What about sterilization?
A: Redbeards is a licensed studio, we have to be as clean and
careful about sterilization as a doctor, a dentist or a hospital.
This means that all of the needles, tubes and grips are sterilized
using hospital grade autoclaves. No needle is used twice. Latex
gloves are worn by the artist at all times during the tattoo process
and are replaced every time the artist touches something other
than the machine or tattoo area. Sterilization is the most important
thing at Redbeards. Do not be afraid to ask David/Redbeard about
his sterilization use. David is more than glad to inform you of
his practices.
Q:
How old must you be to get a tattoo?
A: According to Kentucky state law any person
under the age of 18 must have a signed and notarized letter of
parental/custodial consent prior to receiving a tattoo.
Q: Can I bring my own design?
A: Yes. Your choice of tattoo is never limited to the designs
on the wall. David can use an original design, create one for
you, or mix and match. The options are only limited to your imagination
and desires.
Q: How are the tattoos priced?
A: Price depends on a number of things: the size, color, and time
it will take to complete the tattoo. After evaluating the tattoo
David will then decide on the most appropriate price.
Q: Can I be allergic to tattoo ink?
A: Yes, but it is rare. The ink is always being improved and they
use only materials in it that most people are not allergic to.
If you have a history of being allergic to medical dies you may
be allergic to tattoo ink as well.
Q: Is it permanent? What about the colors?
A: Yes. However every tattoo will age. It depends on your skin,
the placement, how often it is exposed to the sun, and how you
take care of it in the healing process. Unwanted or older bad
looking tattoos can be re-inked, covered with a new one or removed
with a laser, (removing hurts more than the application of the
tattoo itself).
Q: How long does it take to heal? What about the aftercare?
A: The amount of healing time required will vary from person to
person depending on their health as well as the type and location
of the tattoo, usually 7 - 14 days. You will need to take care of your new tattoo for the first two
weeks, applying products that protect the tattoo during the healing
process such as A & D ointment. You will receive tattoo after-care instructions from the artist outlining the proper technique
for taking care of your new tattoo.
Q: Will my tattoo stretch out if I gain weight or get
pregnant?
A: Yes. The same as the skin stretches your tattoo will stretch
if you gain weight, and shrink if you loose weight. The tattoo
will go with the skin. This means, if you gain a 100 pounds your
tattoo will also get stretched along with your skin. On the other
hand if you lost the 100 pounds again the tattoo would be in the
exact same shape as before. However, the colors could fade a little
due to the stretching process.
Q: Will it hurt?
A: Pain is relative depending on the person. Some people claim
that it tickles, while others will pass out. The placement of
the tattoo also depends on the amount of discomfort. Some more
delicate places will be more sensitive to the tattooing process.
